In 2021, Where are the Fashion Florals at Red Carpet Events?

Spread the love

Where have all the flowers gone in summer fashion at red carpet events?

In several award-show events we cover, very few celebs chose frocks or gowns blooming with floral motifs – a real shock.

There were exceptions.

While we were surprised how few floral dresses were on the red carpet this year at the Cannes film festival,  we were not surprised that Sharon Stone’s blue fluffy Dolce Gabbana gown sparked flashbulbs around the globe and created a fashion sensation.

Her stylist Paris Libby was smart to encourage this design by Dolce & Gabbana, the design duo who love florals like we do. It was such a fresh rush of soft flowers that looked like fluttering butterflies on a sea of tulle fabric. A true fantasy look.  Stone, along with Taylor Swift can always be counted on for floral dresses.

One of the other actors who wore a floral-inspired dress was Elsa Zylberstein, the French actress who won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for “I’ve Loved You For So Long.”

She wore a Ralph Lauren blue and white floral dress with delicate flowers that was both classic and feminine. Ralph lovers will know that the ocean blue and white combo is one of his favorites.

Ralph Lauren was also the choice for Kathryn Newton at Wimbledon in our search for pretty floral dresses. The chic sheath dress in a cheerful yellow had a garden of flowers in the pattern. So lovely, don’t you think?

Meanwhile model Patricia Gloria Contreras definitely had the prettiest floral shoes at the Cannes Film Festival. We also loved actress Gemma Chan’s gold dress.

Since most of these red carpet dresses are for those once-in-a-lifetime events, whether it is a wedding or milestone celebration, the gowns are not something that is worn often. This is why we always try to find some clothes that anyone would want in their closet to wear on a weekend dinner date or even for a garden party. Model Akon Changkou wore a lovely Louis Vuitton dress here with floral embroidery that is a classic. (Also why we liked Kathryn Newton’s dress).

Last but not least, kudos to Katie Couric for her soft pink gown embossed with green embroidery by Marchese for her daughter Ellie’s marriage. I swooned over this dress because it was both soft and feminine but fun too. This is a black-tie dress that can be worn to any formal event unlike Sharon Stone’s which is a showstopper but not the most practical.
