The Sound of Music’s Edelweiss Made its Debut in March 1965

“The Sound of Music” was released in the U.S. in March of 1965 and has remained a favorite film for generations. The American Film Institute listed it as the fourth greatest musical of all time.

There are many songs that continue to be both popular and memorable – including Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and The Hills Are Alive.

Edelweiss is obviously a selection because it relates to a flower. But it’s particularly poignant to me because my father, who was Austrian, used to sing it to me as a child.
