Oh baby, it’s cold outside.
A historic Arctic outbreak of cold weather is pummeling many parts of the country bringing snow and a chilling deep freeze even to places that haven’t seen snow in generations.
According to the Washington Post, the snow and ice will travel all the way to the Gulf of Mexico and some cities will see their lowest temperatures in more than a century as high-impact winter storms “roll across the country” with “temperatures 50 degrees below average.”
So flower lovers, here is an idea. Get out your faux flowers and decorate a table piled high with snow as though it is a cake. The faux flowers – which I always tell you to collect – won’t get ruined in the cold. I got this idea from Stacey Bresnahan who you may remember makes fab floral-scented masks. You can either put out your own cake stand to let the snow pile up or just use the table.
Look around and see what shapes are piled up and think of what you can make from flowers. Aside from a cake, make a flower on the table with flowers made out of vegetables and anything around the house. A stick could be a flower stem. An apple the middle of the flower. Be creative.
Or perhaps take this idea from Celia McCue from Wisconsin who decided to spray paint a path with floral garden decor. We love this idea. Tulips are easy to make for any child. Just organize the colors and have each family member do a different task.
Celia found this Albert Camus quote that we think is perfect for this moment.
“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”
So flower lovers. Get creative.
Flowers always make people happy so consider using this motif for snow decor.
