Considering it was recently “National Dessert Day” as well as “Sweetest Day” where you recognize someone sweet and special, this seemed like a good idea to share a technique I use when giving gifts.
We at FlowerPowerDaily like to keep it simple. Who wants complicated gift ideas?
So when I go to someone’s house, they are always expecting flowers. But to make it a bit sweeter, I will often take a toothpick and insert it into a Hershey’s kiss or Lindt chocolate and put it inside a flower.
You only need to insert the toothpick about a 1/4 of an inch to take hold and then use the other part of the toothpick to put in the flower.
I particularly like zinnias and sunflowers or any flower that has a nice wide and sturdy middle that makes it easier to insert the toothpick.
And for you trivia fans, “Sweetest Day” was started in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922 when Herbert Birch Kingston gave candy to orphans and underprivileged kids to show that people are not forgotten. Movie stars of the era joined the gesture and expanded it to give 10,000 boxes of candy to patients in Cleveland hospitals.
I always think it’s sweet to give someone candy and flowers since it makes both the giver and receiver feel good. Though flowers are far less caloric and last longer – the chocolate adds a bit of a surprise.
This way you have a gift that has both flowers and candy.
